Non-melanoma risk factors

Below is a list of risk factors for non-melanoma skin cancer patients:

 

  • Genetic factors

  • Exposure to X-rays

  • History of human papillomavirus infection

  • History of chronic inflammatory skin diseases

  • Exposure to certain chemicals (e.g. tar, pitch paraffin oil, fuel oil)

  • Exposure to arsenic

  • Chronic heat or sun exposure

  • Chronic inflammatory diseases of the skin

  • Immunosuppression

  • Skin phototypes I & II

  • Prior photochemotherapy (PUVA) as medical treatment
