Dermatofibromas are benign, fibrous lesions that present as firm, depressed or elevated, ranging in size from a few millimetres up to several centimetres in diameter. They are usually brown but occasionally can appear to be pink.

 

Dermatofibromas are most often found in the lower parts of an adult body, though they can occur anywhere.

 

They are often misdiagnosed as cysts or melanocytic nevi. Dermatofibromas can by identified pinching the margins of the lesion between two fingers and observing a depression or dimpling at the centre, and feeling a palpable nodule.
